The Marlowes Shopping Centre in Hemel Hempstead has set the standard as the first shopping centre to be recognised for its security procedures.
The town centre mall was awarded the Secured Environments Accreditation after undergoing a thorough audit of its security processes which included independent consultation with management, security staff and general staff.
According to the centre, a key challenge for shopping facilities is to maintain good customer service and create an enjoyable shopping environment – something which cannot be achieved without understanding the potential security risks and acting to mitigate them.
The Marlowes evidenced an ‘excellent’ commitment to security at its 360,000sq ft enclosed precinct.
Centre director Vince Williams said: “The Secured Environments award attained by the Marlowes Shopping Centre is a testament to our commitment towards the safety of all our staff, contractors and shoppers who visit us on a daily basis.

“The process of gaining the award included the re-evaluation of all our risks and procedures and the way in which we implemented and communicated that to our staff and visitors. It was a fantastic exercise for all concerned.”
The Secured Environments Accreditation is developed through the partnership of the Association of Chief Police Officers crime prevention initiatives.
