Challenge Yourself: Time on your hands? Help out in a charity shop

Will you have time on your hands over the summer holidays? Why not put it to good use and gain valuable experience too?

Helping out in a charity shop is just one of the things you could be doing to help a good cause.

Iain Rennie Hospice

The Iain Rennie Hospice shops in the Marlowes and at Stoneycroft in Warners End urgently need help from volunteer shop assistants.

This is a varied role that could involve sorting donations for sale or recycling, assisting customers, using the till and helping with merchandising and visual displays.

Volunteer in the heart of Hemel or Warner End and make new friends, while learning about the retail trade and helping to raise vital funds.

Half a day a week is ideal but this can be flexible. School students from age 14 are welcome and extra help always needed on Saturdays.

British Heart Foundation

The British Heart Foundation also urgently needs volunteers to help at their charity shop in the Marlowes. This shop is full of fabulous donated goods, everything from pre-loved fashions and books to bric a brac.

General assistants are needed to sort donations, steam clothing to make garments look their best, welcome customers and keep the shop floor clean and tidy.

Times can be arranged to suit individuals. Volunteers from age 16 are welcome.

Volunteer Centre Dacorum

Even if you can only spare half a day during the holidays you can still make a difference.

Volunteer Centre Dacorum has been selected by the Hemel branch of Marks & Spencer to be their charity of the year for 2014-2015 and will be holding a charity bag packing event at the store. The date is still to be arranged so why not give the centre a call and get your name down now?
