Those that take the time to give back to their community have been given a pat on the back.

The Hemel Hempstead Conservation Volunteers and litter-picking runner Marc Simpson have been crowned Community Champions in a Dacourm Borough Council-run competition.

While pounding the pavement on his running route around Tring, Marc, who lives in the town, collects litter, takes it home and recycles what he can.

Meanwhile in Hemel Hempstead, conservation volunteers meet up on Tuesdays and Sundays to do environmental tasks from hedge cutting to litter picking.

Presenting the awards, Councillor Julie Laws said: “These awards are very well deserved.

“The hard work and dedication shown by both the winners and the highly commended groups and individuals in keeping Dacorum a wonderful place to live is impressive and on behalf of Dacorum Borough Council, I would like to thank you for helping to make a difference.”

Those that made it onto the highly commended list were; Berkhamsted Litter Pickers, The Tring Anglers, Hemel in Transition and Patricia Angell.
