A selection of the opportunities available this week through Volunteer Centre Dacorum.
AGE UK DACORUM
An hour of your time once a week or more could make such a difference to the life of an older person living on their own.
This home grown charity is looking to match volunteer befrienders with elderly people looking for companionship in Hemel Hempstead, Markyate, Berkhamsted, Tring, Bovingdon and Chipperfield.
If you enjoy the company of older people, have good people skills and a caring nature this could be the role for you.
Ideally, you would have your own transport or the ability to travel locally.
Breakaway for Carers
This Herts County Council service enables relatives and friends looking after dependent people of any age to take breaks by arranging for someone else to take over.
Volunteer sitters experienced in looking after dependent people are matched carefully with those who need this sort of help.
Sitters stay with a person in their own home to provide some welcome support and companionship.
This can be on a regular or occasional basis while their usual carer takes a few hours off.
You need to be at least 18, a good listener, caring and reliable and a clean driving license is preferred.
Herts Society for the Blind
Befrienders are needed by visually impaired people who may be isolated in their own homes.
You may be asked to read, carry out a small but vital task, go for a walk or outing together or just visit for a chat and a cup of tea.
Whatever you do you’ll be making someone less fortunate than you to feel a little less isolated and more involved in the goings on in the world.
You should be 18 or over for this role.
