COMMUNITY police will be giving out goodie bags to dog walkers to encourage them to join a crime spotting initiative.

The members of Tring council agreed to give £250 towards the Neighbourhood Watch-type scheme for dog walkers at last night’s meeting.

Called Dog Watch, members will keep a vigilant eye open for crime while they are out walking their dogs in Pitstone Reservoirs, Stubbings Wood and Tring Park.

The initiative is already a success in Ashridge and now the police want to roll it out in Tring.

Each member will get a ‘doggie bag’ packed with walking maps and crime prevention information.

PCSO Lee Clements of Tring Police Station told the council the police needed about £1,100 to pay for the materials for the scheme, which also included business cards.

The police will also be seeking funds from other sources so the council contributed £250.
