A COUPLE were beaten in their own home during a terrifying attack that saw masked thieves force their way in and threaten to shoot their victims.

Two thugs knocked on the door of a house in Dunlin Road, Grovehill, Hemel Hempstead, and when a man answered they punched him and pushed him to the floor.

The victim, aged 64, suffered a fractured cheekbone and bruising to his head during the burglary on Friday, December 16 at around 9.30pm.

A woman inside the home was also set upon by the two men. Also aged 64, she was left with cuts and bruising to her face and head.

The victims were threatened by the duo who said they would shoot the pair unless they handed over cash. The men, believed to be white, who were wearing masks over their faces - possibly Balaclavas - took money and a mobile phone before making off.

Although they threatened to shoot their victims, a gun was never seen.

Investigating officer Det Con Geoff Smith said: “We are doing everything we can to find those responsible and are currently following a line of enquiry that this was a targeted attack.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Mr Smith via the non-emergency number 101, quoting crime reference number D1/11/8580. Alternatively call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
