A DEDICATED cop squad has been formed in a bid to combat the rising number of metal thefts.

Herts Constabulary has tasked eight officers with the challenge of catching out crooks who snatch lead from church roofs, cut catalytic converters from vehicles and strip precious metals from power cables.

Leading Operation Devon is Detective Chief Inspector Liz Hanlon, who is joined by four detective constables, a crime analyst and two road policing officers.
