Warning over tax scammers

RESIDENTS are being warned to be on their guard over fears a council tax scam could target the borough.

Fraudsters posing as council tax officers are contacting homes to tell them they may be entitled to a refund and then asking for bank details.

Group manager for revenues, benefit and fraud at Dacorum Borough Council Louise Freeth said: “Unfortunately there are a number of scams of this nature. I’d like to remind residents to be cautious when giving personal information or bank details to anyone over the phone and never disclose password type information, such as PINS.”
