CCTV footage of a man who robbed a Hemel Hempstead convenience store while wearing a plastic bag on his head is to be shown on Crimewatch this evening.

It is hoped the recorded video from the incident, in which the culprit brandished a knife and asked a staff member to empty the till at the Day One store in Bennetts Gate, will help police bag the robber.

The crime took place at around 8.40am on Friday, May 9, and the shopkeeper was not injured.

The appeal is to be shown on BBC1’s long-running live crime programme at 9pm in the hope the man will be identified.

The footage will also be available on Herts Police’s Youtube page – – from 9.30pm.

Det Con Paula Mowbray, from the local crime unit at Hemel Hempstead police station, is investigating the robbery and said: “This was a distressing incident for the owner of the store and we continue to make efforts to identify this man.

“It’s an unusual choice of disguise and clearly parts of his face are still on display which is why we’re releasing this footage in the hope that someone will know who he is.

“If you believe you can identify this man please make contact as soon as possible.”
