The manager of the Marlowes Shopping Centre says an exciting improvement works scheme at the mall will not be marred by teething problems.

The Hemel Hempstead town centre mall has embarked on an enhancement programme – full details of which are yet to be released – but has fielded concerns from shoppers as the changes are introduced.

A new parking system due to be launched on Friday has seen the post-payment machines replaced in two batches, causing queues while some of the existing machines were non-operational.

One shopper who visited from nearby Kings Langley David Duckland said: “It was an inconvenience. There queues of up to eight people for the pay machines, as some of them were covered up.

“It was a nightmare.”

Centre manager Vince Williams said: “These were planned works. The new system gets half installed whilst the existing system is still operational, this is normal.

“Staff were available to assist our customers over the weekend and we had a few people pass comment, which we have dealt with.

“The new system has many more uses that will enhance the shopping experience, which will soon be
made public.”

A modernisation of the centre’s lifts also saw users posting comments on the mall’s Facebook page when some were out of order.

The centre replied, posting: “We apologise for any inconvenience caused during these much needed works, but they will all be completed in plenty of time before the Christmas rush and improving the overall shopping experience.”
