DONATIONS at an annual fundraising dog walk were down on last year – but spirits were still high among charity fundraisers.
The circular K9 9K dog walk hosted by the Berkhamsted Lions began and ended at The Hospice of St Francis in Northchurch on Sunday.
It took walkers and their pets around a 9km – or 5.6-mile – countryside footpath route.
Entry was £5 but participants were encouraged to raise sponsorship for taking part too.
Organiser Bruce Ruggles said: “We did not get as much as we did last year, possibly due to the economic conditions at the moment. Fundraising is just not as good as it was last year.”
He said the event raised about £2,500 this year – compared to £5,000 in 2011. About 60 people took part, which was about the same number as last year.
The cash will be split between the hospice and local charities that will be chosen by the Lions at a later date.
Bruce said: “The countryside up there is very pleasant and the day went very well. Everybody enjoyed it and the weather was good”
