Festival-goers to Tring’s Chilfest this summer will get a blast from the past when chirpy former TV presenter Keith Chegwin comperes both 80s pop evenings.

Organiser Steve Butcher confirmed the one-time household name – whose most recent appearance on the box was a stint on ITV’s Dancing On Ice last year – would be compering both nights on July 4 and 5.

Steve, who owns Pitstone-based company Universal Event Production, said: “We wanted to have a good personality and Keith fits the bill really well for what we’re doing.

“He’ll be hosting both 80s nights and I’m sure he’ll have a lot of fun and banter with the crowds.”

Both nights will see a host of artists take to the stage and offer up some vintage sounds, including Bad Manners, the Boomtown Rats and China Crisis.

The third event on July 6 – in the afternoon this time – will see more contemporary pop acts for youngsters, with boy band Union J, X Factor star Amelia Lily and nineties band 911 already confirmed as part of the line-up, among others.

Ticket sales have been going well with 6,500 shifted since they first went on sale on January 14, and there were around 22,000 available in total across all three days.

Tickets for last year’s festival didn’t go on sale until March 12, but Steve aims to have sold around 7,500 tickets by the same time this year.

He said: “We’re expecting a big upsurge in the next four weeks, and the retailers have been amazing.”

Tickets can be bought online or from a list of selected retailers which can be found here on the Chilfest website.
