Firefighters get new safer uniforms

FIREFIGHTERS will be sporting a new look from next month.

From Tuesday, May 3 firemen and women will swap their signature navy blue uniform for beige clothing.

The new outfits are made from more hard-wearing material and will offer better protection including improved thermal defence.

Fire services, including Beds, Luton and Essex are already using the uniforms, which has helped to reduce the cost through economies of scale.

Herts assistant chief fire officer Darryl Keen said: “This is an excellent example of fire services working together to ensure our firefighters have the best possible equipment at the lowest possible costs.”
