Good listeners wanted to offer friendship link to older people

GOOD listeners with patience and empathy are needed to visit old folks in their homes.

Age Concern Dacorum needs people to dedicate four hours per month to visit a client in their own home or at a mutually agreed neutral venue like a cafe.

The helper must enjoy the company and understand the needs of older people, have a caring nature and a good sense of humour.

> A hands-on volunteer is wanted to help out at a dementia cafe in Tring.

Tasks will include helping to set up tables, provide refreshment and run activities on Mondays from 10am to midday.

The Alzheimer’s Society provides an induction course and training courses.

> Enjoy fun outdoors by lending a hand as a forest schools helper. Forest schools, run by the Box Moor Trust, is an innovative approach to education where a child or adult has the opportunity to develop through hands-on learning in a woodland environment.

The right person will be able to commit to regular sessions throughout the school year and be happy to be outside in all weathers. Someone with experience of working with children would be preferred.

School groups visit every other week during term-time from Monday to Thursday, 8.30am to 11.45am and 12.45pm to 3pm.

> If you are 16 or older, enjoy hanging out with friends and chatting about celebrity gossip, football results or just like having someone to go shopping with, this could be the perfect volunteer opportunity.

ReachOut Plus needs helpers to be part of a circle of friends for young people with disabilities.

This programme links young people with moderate disabilities with peer volunteers who can commit a few hours each month.
