Grovehill flat fire leaves man fighting for his life

A MAN is fighting for his life after being rescued from a ground floor flat fire.

He was rushed to Watford General Hospital, where he is now in a critical condition.

The blaze at Great Palmers sheltered housing scheme off St Agnells Lane, Grovehill, broke out at 8.10pm on Tuesday.

East of England Ambulance Service spokesman Gary Sanderson said the man is now “fighting for his life”.

Two fire engines from Hemel Hempstead and one from Redbourn dealt with the blaze, which they had fully extinguished by 9.10pm.

Paramedics came from Hemel Hempstead and St Albans to help the man.

Police and firefighters are investigating the cause of the fire.
