A Hemel Hempstead bus driver is in the running to be named bus driver of the year after winning a regional final.

Charles Costin won £1,000 after getting full marks in a series of manoeuvring and theory tests, designed to find the three best drivers to represent Arriva’s Shires region.

Charles, along with the second and third placed drivers from Milton Keynes and Ware, will be entering the national final in Blackpool in September, where they will compete with top bus drivers from across the country for the prestigious overall title.

Managing director of Arriva Paul Adcock said: “Congratulations to Charles for achieving the top results at our local event.

“This is an opportunity for our drivers to display their driving skills in a prestigious competition that has been supported by the bus industry for many years.

“We hope that our three winners will do well at the national final in September.”
