Herts transgender project in line for NHS gong could have a national impact, say delighted backers

A ground-breaking report looking into the needs of the transgender community in Hertfordshire has been nominated for a national NHS award.

It has been picked ahead of entries submitted from all around England to win a place on the shortlist for the Excellence in Public Participation award.

Herts-based charity Viewpoint worked with Healthwatch Hertfordshire, Herts Valleys Clinical Commissioning Group and Herts County Council to help give the transgender community the chance to say what sort of help they need, and to provide information about support and resources.

Jane Brown of Healthwatch Hertfordshire said “We’re really proud that the work we’ve done has got this recognition. Eight in ten trans people have at some point seriously considered suicide, and this report will hopefully allow us to provide much better support for members of this community, not just locally, but nationally.”

The work is still continuing, if you would like to be involved in further research please call 01707 275 978 or email transherts@hotmail.com
