A £4,400 grant application for an outdoor gym has been withdrawn amid fears drunk people will use it.
Potten End Parish Council had applied to Berkhamsted Youth Town Council for part of a £50,000 pot of money the youngsters have for sports projects in the area.
They planned to install a rowing machine, exercise bike, cross trainer and safety surfacing at the village’s Spencer Holland Recreation Ground.
But at a meeting on Thursday, councillors said they had since found out that not many villagers actually want an outdoor gym.
Equipment was too large, they said. Several councillors, including the chairman, had not seen the application before it was made.
Councillor Sharron Gurney was also worried it would become a haven for drunks leaving nearby pub The Plough.
She said: “If people have had a drink, it could end up being used at 11pm to 11.30pm by rowdy people.”
