A MEMORIAL service was held today (Friday) to remember gunned down police officer Frank Mason.
The 27-year-old was shot in the back by robbers as he tried to stop the armed raid of a security van in Bank Court, Hemel Hempstead.
Tomorrow (Saturday) marks 24 years since the off-duty officer was killed.
Flowers were laid at a memorial outside Barclay’s Bank and a one-minute silence was held.
An award in PC Mason’s honour was also presented. Each year it is given to an outstanding police officer within the force.
PC Mike Ball, the neighbourhood officer for Highfield and St Pauls, was given the accolade for his dedication and enthusiasm for the job.
