A MAJOR fundraising event for the Hospice of St Francis has been cancelled for the second time due to bad weather.
The charity’s garden party at Ashridge House was moved from May 27 to July 15 in the hopes of better weather.
But with downpours predicted for this weekend, next Sunday’s event has been called off and it looks as though the fundraiser will not go ahead at all this year.
Hospice of St Francis spokesman Claire De Silva said: “It is incredibly disappointing for us. We raise about £16,000 from this event - that is a significant amount for us.
“Obviously for us to carry on into the next year without that income is concerning but I’m confident that we will make that up through the rest of the year.
“We will really be looking to make next year’s event as encouraging as possible for our funds.”
The never-ending rain means grassed areas around the estate, usually used for parking during the garden party, have become water logged.
Ashridge spokesman Toby Roe said: “It is very disappointing for all concerned.”
