Hotel objectors want more time to prepare their case

Campaigners hope to delay the decision on a planning application for a major hotel development while they mount their fight against it.

Dacorum Borough Council’s development control committee is due to consider the proposal for Bovingdon’s Bobsleigh Inn on Thursday, September 26.

But those behind Save Bovingdon Green Belt are hoping for more time to put their case together.

Action group member Richard Daynes said: “It is a building that would fit into a city centre or business park but here it will stick out like a sore thumb.”

Hotel owners Macdonald want to demolish the existing 46-bedroom venue in Hempstead Road and replace it with a 100-bedroom hotel complete with a spa.

Campaigners say this is an increase in the venue’s floor space of 337 per cent.
