It’s all square after the opening exchanges as the voting for which Dacorum sport groups builds up a real head of steam.
Voting for the Riverside Community Sports Awards competition opened last week. There are five groups in the final – Hemel Martial Arts, Hemel Hempstead Town Cricket Club, Dacorum Majorettes, High Herts Riding School and Hemel Hempstead Swimming Club.
And it is down to voters to decide which two clubs will each bag £1,000.
Hemel Martial Arts, Hemel Hempstead Town Cricket Club and Dacorum Majorette all want to buy new equipment, High Herts Riding School wants to help out local schools that have suffered from funding cuts to allow pupils to continue taking riding lessons and Hemel Hempstead Swimming Club has dreams of setting up an academy.
Riverside Shopping Centre manager David Robinson said: “It is going really, really well. We won’t know number wise because we are not counting them until the end but it is looking quite equal at the moment.”
All you have to do to back your favourite club is visit one of eight participating stores and ask staff there for a token which you can then place into the voting box of your choice.
The stores taking part are Debenhams, Starbucks, Clintons, Laura Ashley, Monsoon, Waterstones, Next and HMV.
The competition is being run by Riverside Shopping Centre in partnership with the Gazette to celebrate a summer of sporting fun including the Olympics and the European Championships.
