It takes two to tango, say the dancing duo married for 71 years

A pair of Hemel Hempstead lunch club-goers donned their dancing shoes for a special celebration at the South Hill Centre last week.

Joyce and Cedric Frith, both 90, saw their fortnightly lunch club transformed into a ballroom to mark their 71st wedding anniversary.

The couple got married when they were just teenagers back in 1943, after meeting at a dance hall in North London. They fell for each other over the ‘modern sequence’ dance, which they’ve practised ever since.

But lovestruck Cedric got Joyce down the aisle on the premise he’d be sent for service with the Royal Air Force. In fact, he wasn’t posted abroad until more than two years later.

He said: “We’ve had our arguments, but these days whenever people have an argument they just pack it up.

“But we’ve always loved one another, so we work at it. We endeavour to do everything together.”

Anyone who wishes to join the Table Talk lunch club, which meets every other Thursday, can call Kate Gray on 01442 409816 for more details.
