A band of knitting nannas at a sheltered housing scheme in Apsley have succeeded in making more than 4,500 miniature hats as part of a charity initiative for Age UK Dacorum.
The ladies from Florence Longman House have supplied almost half of the borough’s 10,000 target for the hats, which will be sold with Innocent Smoothie bottles in Sainsbury’s stores from November.
Another committed knitter has made 1,500 hats on her own, and for each one sold the charity will make 25p.
Community fundraiser for Age UK Dacorum Michelle Law said: “This is the most we have ever done in Dacorum and I am over the moon we’ve hit our target. They’ve really come up trumps.”
The expected £2,500 total raised from the project will go towards a Winter Warmth campaign.
