Motorists travelling on the M1 northbound face long delays this morning after a ‘serious’ accident.
The carriageway was shut so that a helicopter could land to help the injured after a collision between two lorries and a car.
Two ambulances, a response car and a duty officer also attended the scene. One man has now been taken to the hospital by air ambulance.
A spokesman for the East England Ambulance Service Trust said: “The man suffered a serious leg injury and following treatment by land and air ambulance crews, he was flown direct to the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel for further care.”
Although the smash happened between Junctions 10 and 11 near Luton, just after 7am, tailbacks stretch to Junction 7 – the turn-off for Hemel Hempstead.
