A man has been arrested and charged in connection with a series of burglaries after being snared by an eagle-eyed police officer.

Raul Bobelica, aged 26 and of no fixed abode, was arrested by PC Brian Evans of the Hemel Hempstead Safer Neighbourhood Team on suspicion of attempted burglary, while he was on proactive patrol in the Flamstead area.

Items stolen during the burglaries were also found by PC Evans.

Bobelica was charged in connection with four burglaries in Flamstead, Harpenden, St Albans and Weston Turville.

The Flamstead burglary took place in Friendless Lane last Thursday (July 10) but no items are believed to have been stolen. On the same day in Annables Lane, Harpenden, a laptop was stolen.

The week before in Lybury Lane, St Albans, on Wednesday, July 2, cash and jewellery was stolen and on June 18 there was another incident at the Marrow Way, a travellers’ site, in Weston Turville, Aylesbury, where police said a ‘significant amount of jewellery’ was stolen.

Bobelica appeared at Hatfield Remand Court on Saturday and was remanded in custody.
