They say things often happen in threes, and that phrase certainly couldn’t be more true for the Rev Mike Macey.

Since Christmas he’s moved house, became a dad for the first time and taken up residency at a new church – talk about busy!

In among the sleepless nights and endless nappies, Mike has now welcomed into the fold at St John’s in Boxmoor, after the church had been without a vicar for several months.

As former minor canon and precentor of the Abbey Church of St Peter’s in Westminster, Mike was responsible for writing all the services that took place there – the most notable by far being the wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

He had the honour of meeting with the royal couple prior to their big day in July 2012, and read the Lord’s Prayer at the service which was watched by a worldwide TV audience of about two billion people.

Mike said of the experience: “It had its moments, but it was really good fun.

“They were really easy to work with, and the rest of the family.

“The Queen’s office was great. I have a lot of respect for them.”

Mike and wife Emma have settled into the vicarage just off Heath Lane with daughter Sophie Elizabeth, who was one month old on February 26.

The 31-year-old admitted that life at St John’s is going to be quite a contrast from his former post in London, but he’s looking forward to the change.

He said: “It’s going to be very different, because it was primarily tourists who visited Westminster, but here it will mainly be residents which means there will be a greater ownership of the church.

“I’m delighted to be here, and I’m very much looking forward to getting to know everyone and walking alongside them. It’s life-giving and growing.”

Editor of the St John’s magazine Sally-Anne Bates said: “We’re looking forward to his ministry and spiritual growth for the parish.

“ He’ll be building on the foundations already laid and bringing new people into our church family”.

As well as St John’s, Mike will be responsible for St Francis’ – also in Boxmoor – and St Stephens in Chaulden.
