Ian McLoughlin has been held in prison after appearing before Hatfield Remand Court today, charged with the murder of a Little Gaddesden grandfather.
McLoughlin, 55, was on day release from Springhill Prison, near Aylesbury, at the time when Graham Buck, 66, was murdered in the village’s Nettleden Road.
A nationwide manhunt was launched to capture McLoughlin, who was arrested by police in Tottenham in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
He has also been charged with robbery and possession of cannabis.
David McCollin, 50, of Ridley Villas, Hackney, and Shirley Dean, of Ermine Road, Tottenham, also appeared in court today, charged with assisting an offender.
All three will now appear before St Albans Crown Court on Tuesday.
