A UNIVERSITY graduate overcame unemployment by spotting the purr-fect gap in the market.
Laura Bromiley, 23, who has a degree in philosophy from Reading University, has set up Gosford Pets supply store in Tring High Street.
She said: “It felt like there was something missing from the town.
“Everyone has a pet here and you have to travel miles to a pet shop.”
Laura is also a keen pet owner and has a 14-year-old Jack Russell called Josie, cats Roxy and Buffy and 10 fish.
She took a module in entrepreneurship before moving from Epsom in Surrey in December and opening the business on April 30.
She said: “It has been good and it has been growing. I keep getting new customers and now have to keep them coming back.”
But starting up the new business and giving the former Threshers off-licence building a makeover has not been completely problem-free.
A watertank exploded above the shop when it was being refurbished.
Laura said: “Fortunately there was no stock in here but it damaged the walls and ceiling tiles.
“It has been really exciting, but really, really stressful at times.”
The shop opens every day, welcomes pets and has its own Facebook page.
