A YOUTH club set up after a village had no place for young people to socialise is now thriving.

Pitstone Youth Café – set up in October after funding for provisions from Bucks County Council was withdrawn – now has 115 members.

Manager Ben Barnes said: “I am really proud of all the members and the parish council especially. Success like that in such a short space of time is amazing.

“I thought it would be popular, but not as popular as it has been. It has just rocketed.”

Pistone Parish Council is paying £10,000 a year to keep the scheme going for at least an 18-month period and decided to buy the club Xbox and PS3 games consoles at a meeting on Thursday.

Council clerk Laurie Eagling said: “We are delighted young people have somewhere to go.

“We had no youth service at all and a club at Ivinghoe Church fell to the wayside about a year before.

“It is attracting people not just from our catchment area, but from Ivinghoe and surrounding villages.”

The café run by Aylesbury Vale Youth For Christ meets every Wednesday during school term time at Brookmead School Hall.
