Police are desperate to trace the rightful owners of a collection of gold and silver bullion, coins and doubloons which could have been stolen in a burglary or robbery.

The coins were found under a hedge in Reed Close, London Colney on Wednesday, February 11.

Detectives believe the collection may have been stolen in a burglary or robbery and also believe the collection could have come from anywhere in the country.

The items were mostly found individually wrapped in cellophane, plastic or were held in plastic containers.

Jewellers have valued the collection at approximately £50,000.

Detective Sergeant Karen Lewis said she hoped the uniqueness of the items would help them find the owner.

“Despite several enquiries, we have so far been unable to trace the owners of these items,” she said.

“The items are very distinctive so we hope that someone might recognise them and that they can be returned.”

Anyone who recognises the collection, or who has any information about where they may have come from, is asked to contact DS Karen Lewis on the non-emergency number 101.
