A luxury jewellery retailer has finally opened its doors in Hemel Hempstead after weeks of anticipation.

Danish brand Pandora – famed for its unique bracelets and charms along with other gold and silverware – announced its intention to set up shop in the Riverside centre earlier this year.

The shop – which took the place of ladies fashion store Roman when it moved to a unit opposite – opened under a ‘soft launch’ event on Friday and is planning an official opening celebration in the new year.

The store has so far employed eight people from the area.

Store manager Reiss Mogilner said he is positive about Pandora’s new presence in the town.

He said: “It is going well so far, we have had lots of people walking around the shop.

“The brand new Christmas range was launched on the day we opened so that is up and running, and we look forward to welcoming lots more people and getting ready for Christmas.”

While it is still too early to provide figures on sales and footfall for the opening weekend, Reiss did say that the shop is on target with head office expectations, and is hoped to be extremely popularwith its impressive new concept design.

The opening of the high-end jewellery brand is the latest in a long line of changes for the Riverside Shopping Centre, which has seen H&M expanding into the empty unit left by collapsed entertainment brand HMV, an independent pasty company and cafe move in with support from the management, and the introduction of labels like Roman in the last year.

Outdoor supplies store Millets closed after a short spell of just over a year. Its empty unit was replaced by the move of Roman, which first opened at Riverside last November.

Further up the town centre the Marlowes Shopping Centre is also gearing up for what is hoped to be a busy festive shopping period.

The mall hopes to run extended opening hours on Friday, November 28 to coincide with the US-based tradition Black Friday , often regarded as the beginning of the Christmas shopping season.

A spokesman for the centre said it is still awaiting confirmation from the retailers participating, but it will soon be announcing seasonal events such as a VIP night and late night shopping in the week leading up to Christmas.
