Radio station broadcasts an appeal for goldies oldies to join the schedule squad

The team who put together the schedule at Dacorum’s community radio station have broadcast a new year resolution – to get more golden oldies to join the gang.

Radio Dacorum, which celebrates its second birthday in March, has already successfully recruited teenagers and yummy mummies to become key parts of the weekly mix.

But station manager Matt Hatton said: “Now we would like to tap into one of the area’s most valuable, and arguably most overlooked resources, the older generation.

“We already have the mums in the morning and the teenagers in the afternoon, and our evening schedule features music fans of all ages and backgrounds playing their favourite tracks.

“But we want to reach out to older people and let them know that we are keen to get them involved as well.

“They may already have a background in broadcasting and are itching to get back on the air, but no experience is required.

“Full training will be given and they don’t have to be technical whizzkids – just so long as they know where the ‘on’ button is on a PC and they can talk the hind legs off a donkey then we will welcome them.”

There are already nearly 40 regular presenters at the station, so it’s a great chance to get involved in something new, make new friends and stretch yourself, he reckons.

There’s a lunchtime slot from noon to 2pm from Monday to Friday which would lend itself to music and chat for the Wogan generation, Matt believes, and anyone who would like to know more can give him a call on 01442 384874.
