A STILL of the classic scene where Delboy from Only Fools and Horses topples through the bar while trying to impress a lady attracted a winning bid of £1,000 during the most successful ever Pepper Golf Day.
Actor David Jason, a supporter of the Pepper Foundation, and known for the Del Boy catchphrase ‘You plonker’, donated the signed picture for the auction that followed the golfing extravaganza last week. Food critic Nigel Barden, ex-Watford player Luther Blisset, former Wrexham and Chelsea goalkeeper Eddie Niedzwiecki and England Rugby Sevens squad member James Rodwell were among the players.
A total of 92 golfers took part in the annual event at Ashridge Golf Club and an estimated record tally of £21,300 was raised.
Organiser Janet Edwards, who arranged the event on behalf of butcher Joe Collier, said: “It was our best ever. The weather was glorious. It lifted everyone’s spirits and they bid fantastically in the auction. We are £2,000 up on last year – it has just got better and better every year.”
The golf day, now in its 14th year, raises cash for the Pepper Foundation, which supports care for sick children.
The winning team was the Corian Crusaders while Jim Pettigrew won the gents competition and Marilyn Barratt was victorious in the ladies.
