The West Herts Hospitals NHS Trust has assured patients it is investing in the future of its three sites.

The promise has been made in response to Hemel Hempstead UKIP party chairman Howard Koch’s comments after attending an open meeting with former Trust chief executive Samantha Jones.

Communications director Antony Tiernan said: “I’m sorry that Mr Koch came away fromour public meeting with unanswered questions. The feedback we had from others was very positive.

“We have seen significant improvements across all three of our hospitals over recent years, including a 28% reduction in mortality (death) rates and an additional £3.9 million being spent each year on 160 new nurses.
“We have also opened numerous new services, for instance a dedicated ward to support people with dementia, and we’re spending more than £16 million upgrading our wards, clinics and buildings.

“We are also working closely with our local NHS and social care partners on a review – called Your Care, Your Future – to help shape the future of health and care services in west Hertfordshire.

“Your Care, Your Future is extremely important and will help deliver the vision we need for the future of our three hospital sites – Hemel Hempstead, St Albans and Watford.”
