The man responsible for Herts children’s services has praised the county’s social work sector for its low vacancy rates and hard work.
Richard Roberts, who represents the Kings Langley ward at Herts County Council and also holds the portfolio for children’s services, said: “In terms of social workers, we are doing really well and while we don’t quite have a full quota, we do have very low vacancy rates.
“We had a big push last year to get vacancy rates down and they are now among the lowest in the country.”
Councillor Roberts also said that Herts social workers’ case loads are manageable, which has led to a satisfactory rating from the latest Ofsted inspection
This, he says, compares to many social services teams in the country which have been deemed unsatisfactory. He added: “Social workers have to deal with the toughest workload of any public servants and they have my undying gratitude for the work they do.”
His comments come as part of Foster Care Fortnight.
