At the lunchtime concert in St. Mary’s in Hemel Hempstead High Street on Tuesday soprano Una Barry was the soloist in a concert of sacred music from four European countries.

Una sang works by Bach, Mozart, Franck, Bizet, Pergolesi, Vaughan Williams and Arthur Sullivan among others.

Simon Pusey accompanied her on the organ and also played some solo organ works.

The concert was enjoyed by a larger than usual audience.

Una has enjoyed a busy singing career – her extensive repertoire from the baroque to the present day and her outstanding musical ability have enabled her to accept engagements in the British Isles, Europe and much further afield.

The next Tuesday concert in the current series is on Tuesday, March 11, and features Joanna Reveley (flute) accompanied by Simon Gilliver on the piano.

Joanna has played at previous Tuesday lunchtime concerts and is the wife of Rev James Reveley, former vicar of St. John’s, Boxmoor.

All are welcome. Bring your lunch to enjoy at the end of the concert with a complimentary cup of tea or coffee.

There is a suggested minimum donation of £3, and all proceeds are in aid of church funds.
