The target for house building in the borough is expected to be set at 430 new homes each year until 2018.
In the new draft Housing Strategy, the building figure increases from an annual target of 360 dwellings to meet the latest population and household projections.
It follows government advice to increase the overall supply of new homes.
Corporate director of housing and regeneration at Dacorum Borough Council Mark Gaynor told a meeting of the cabinet: “There will be years that we would expect to exceed that 430. Clearly our target will be to exceed 430 in the early years, particularly with affordable housing.”
Under the plan, which goes out to consultation later this month, 71 new council-owned homes would be built by 2015, with an overall annual target of 150 affordable homes – including housing association and council properties.
There is also a pledge to build a 33-bed hostel for homeless in Dacorum by March 2015. The final strategy is due to be agreed signed off this summer.
