Teens wanted to help with summer reading

YOUNG volunteers are wanted to help support thousands of children taking part in a reading event for the summer.

More than 12,000 children took part in last year’s Summer Reading Challenge, and now helpers aged 14 to 18 are being asked to back this year’s challenge, called Story Lab, in libraries across the county during July and August.

Volunteers are needed to be reading role models, helping younger children taking part in the challenge, as they work towards a special medal and certificate.

Those who sign up will need to complete a minimum of 10 hours but this can be done flexibly and will count towards a national volunteering award.

The deadline for teenagers to register as volunteers is June 28. For a registration form and further information visit www.hertsdirect.org/libraries or email srcvolunteers@hertscc.gov.uk
