FIREMEN were happy to tackle dirt rather than flames to raise cash for a good cause.
They took on their new roles outside Berkhamsted Fire Station in Charles Street for four hours on Saturday and made £100 for The Firefighters Charity.
They washed cars in return for donations.
Retained firefighter Les Bushell said: “We had a steady flow of traffic, but quite a bit of rain and that put a bit of a dampener on things. Everyone was friendly and happy.”
Les, 38, from Mill Street, Berkhamsted, was joined by crew commander Steve Carbey, and firefighters Paul Knight and Ron Wellington.
Les is also a caretaker at Berkhamsted School, Charles Street. Six out of the eight staff at the town’s fire station are retained firefighters. Find out more about how to become one at www.hertsdirect.org/fire.
