‘Town’s toilets are closed for your own good’

LOOS: A public toilet block cannot stay open later, say Dacorum chiefs.

Berkhamsted Town Council had written to them asking if the town’s Water Lane car park toilets behind Tesco could stay open for longer.

But Steve Tarbox, cleaning chief at Dacorum Borough Council, said they are already open from 7am to 5pm at weekends. More time would cost £25 per hour on Saturdays and £50 on Sundays, he wrote in reply.

He said: “Usage outside of normal open hours is minimal but incidents of vandalism and antisocial behaviour increase dramatically.”

Toilets would then be closed for repair in normal open times, he said.
