Train firm backing for summer rail works rethink

Train operator London Midland has welcomed news that planned rail closures for maintenance works have been scaled back.

Commuters who last week faced the headache of strike action had the prospect of further misery this summer when the busy line between Watford and Euston was set to be closed for a total of 16 days.

But Network Rail went back to the drawing board after feedback from rail users and industry partners.

London Midland’s managing director Patrick Verwer said: “It’s great news that our colleagues at Network Rail have been able to revise the work schedule for the project.

“Our passengers who commute into London on a daily basis were extremely concerned about the impact and I am confident they will welcome this decision.”

The revised dates for works are August 9 to August 11, August 16 to August 18, August 23 to August 26, February 14 to February 16 and February 21 to February 23, 2015.

Other dates in May, December and April, 2015, remain unchanged. Click here to find out more about the works
