ANTI-SOCIAL behaviour in a town’s trouble spot was one reason given for a nearby store not to have its alcohol licence extended.

The Co-op in Silk Mill Way, Tring, has applied to extend the hours it can sell alcohol from 8am to 6am Monday to Saturday and from 10am to 6am on Sundays.

It also wants an extra 30 minutes on Sundays nights.

The store is in an area well known as a young people’s hangout and neighbours have complained to the police and the council about drunken and noisy behaviour at night.

At a Tring Town Council meeting Councillor Georgina Haynes said: “I would hate to think there were more ways for young people to get hold of alcohol.”

Councillor Roxanne Ransley said that she could not see any good reason for a shop to want to sell alcohol at 6am.

Members of the council decided to write to the Co-op and explain that they were unhappy with the application presented to them.
