A FUNDRAISING football match was held in memory of teenager Ben Wesley on Sunday and raised more than £1,700.

And now his parents are appealing for raffle prizes to help the total of cash raised even higher.

Tracey and Adam Draper are raising money for the Herts Air Ambulance which came to 17-year-old Ben’s aid when he crashed his Renault Clio near Tring in February.

The Manchester United fan and former Tring School pupil was rushed to hospital but doctors were unable to save the youngster.

The match was hosted by Tring Athletic, the team of Ben’s best friend Liam Hatter, and Ben’s former team Pitstone & Ivinghoe Panthers.

Around 500 people saw the home side run out 5-0 winners.

“We would like to say a massive, massive thank you to everyone who came,” said Ben’s mum Tracey.

“People were so generous.

“We hope that we did him proud and we are sure he would have been watching down on us with his great, big smile and telling each and every one of us to man up.”

The amount raised by the match has now taken the family’s fundraising total to almost £6,700.

It costs the air ambulance service around £3,000 every time the team are called out.

Adam, an estate agent, is sending out leaflets to businesses in a bid to get prizes for a raffle.
