‘We saddled up and made a difference’ say Sports Relief pyjama pedallers

A band of bloggers cycled 16 miles on a route between Hemel Hempstead to St Albans to raise £800 in just one day.

The group of five saddled up to take part in national fundraising event Team Honk, which involved around 150 bloggers from across the UK transporting a baton from John O’Groats to Land’s End all in aid of Sports Relief.

Mum-of-seven Afra Willmore teamed up with local bloggers Mary Louise Mitty, Paul Hooker, Carolynne Ashworth and Claire Morfee as they donned their pyjamas and biked along the Nickey Line to St Albans, which took them three hours to complete.

Afra, who lives in Aldbury, said: “We had so much fun – there was lots of shrieking!”

Afra recently took up the spot as Monday’s host on Radio Dacorum’s Mummy Mix show, where she’s on the air between 10am and noon.

She suffers from fibromyalgia, which causes chronic fatigue, and had a bad attack the day before she was supposed to set off on the cycle.

The 44-year-old said: “Luckily, Mary Louise brought along a trolley and they dragged me the last mile! It was fantastic.”

The overall event is hoping to raise more than £20,000 for Sport Relief, and you can still donate £5 to Sport Relief by texting HONK to 70005.
