The managers of Sunnyside Rural Trust want you to vote for them in this month’s Community Matters contest for good causes to get cash from Berkhamsted’s Waitrose.
Each month, every branch of the supermarket chain is given £1,000 to distribute to three needy organisations based nearby.
Shoppers are then given a green token at the checkout to drop into a box set aside for each of the groups. The money is then split between the charities based on the number of tokens they get.
April’s contestants at the Berkhamsted branch are Dagnall Village Hall, The Iron Room at Tring Station and Sunnyside Rural Trust.
Sunnyside publicity and fundraising officer Maggie Grand said: “We would really encourage you to vote for us.
“We provide a really valuable service for people with learning disabilities in Berkhamsted, Northchurch and Hemel Hempstead, and we really need your support.”
In a new video (above), Maggie shows the Gazette around the charity’s Northchurch allotments site, which includes a chicken pen.
The charity also has allotments in Berkhamsted and Hemel Hempstead where fruit and vegetables are grown to be sold – but fresh eggs are exclusive to the Northchurch site. Learn more here.
