THERE was little festive cheer for Dacorum’s MSSML Premier Division sides as Berkhamsted and Tring Athletic both suffered defeats on Tuesday night.
The Comrades continued their poor run of form as they went down 2-1 to Oxhey Jets, while Tring suffered a 3-1 loss to St Margaretsbury.
Berko’s defeat was their sixth on the bounce, but the side will feel they could and perhaps should have taken something from the game.
Oxhey took the lead through an Ian Bywater header, and despite chances for Lawrence Bunker and Leon Skinner, the Comrades could not manage a reply before half-time.
Josh Smith came close for Berko after the break, but Mick Vipond’s side found themselves two goals down shortly afterwards as Spencer Bellotti slotted home.
Louis Rose halved the deficit to give the Comrades hope, but when Aaron Usmani’s shot cannoned back off the underside of the bar and Smith was denied a clear penalty, it was clear that it was not going to be Berko’s night.
Tring, meanwhile, put in a disappointing display at home to St Margaretsbury.
Athletic had started well and took the lead after only two minutes through George House’s first goal for the side.
And Tring had the chance to double their lead a few minutes later as Andy Hughes hit the bar with a header.
But Bury came back strongly and equalised six minutes before half-time.
In the second half, Tring were poor and a defensive mistake 10 minutes after the restart put the visitors 2-1 ahead.
From then on there was no way back for Tring, and an own-goal sealed the win for the away side.
