Another defeat for struggling Levy Green

Leverstock Green’s poor run of form continued on Saturday as Hadley handed them their 11th defeat in their last 13 games.

Fellow mid-table side Hadley took the lead just five minutes after the kick-off when Alexis Nicolas floated in an innocuous-looking free kick from near the left touchline that nestled into the corner of the net.

Leverstock went close to levelling two minutes later when Tom Bambury took advantage of a gap in the Hadley defence to go through and round keeper Russell Garland, but a defender got back to scramble his shot off the line.

That was as good as it got for Green in the first half and Hadley doubled their advantage in stoppage time when a corner was poorly defended, allowing Winston Taylor to fire home.

There may have been some hope of a second half Leverstock comeback, but those dreams were extinguished within four minutes of the restart.

Nick Chrysanthou hit a shot from distance which keeper Tom Coulton could only parry, and Ivan Machedo was quickest to the rebound to shoot home a third Hadley goal.

Midway through the half, Green finally started to play some football in the attacking third and Tobi Akin hit a decent effort which Garland did well to save.

There was to be no comeback, though, and Hadley could well have added to their tally if it were not for some wayward shooting and a couple of decent saves from Coulton.

Leverstock will need to improve quickly if they are to avoid slipping down the table, and things get no easier for Steve Benitez’s side as they travel to Dacorum rivals Berkhamsted on Saturday.

The pre-Christmas festive derby looks set to be a fiery clash, with a good crowd expected at Broadwater.

Berko currently sit in eighth place in the MSSML Premier Division table, while Levy green occupy 14th position following Saturday’s loss.
