A first half goal from Curt Dizon and a string of outstanding saves from goalkepeer Tom Coulton helped Leverstock Green to a 1-0 win over Haringey Borough in Saturday’s league clash at Pancake Lane.

Three of Steve Benitez’s new signings made their debuts for Green, with Gio Baptiste and Myles Scott at left-back and right-back respectively and Elliot Bailey up front.

Baptiste impressed from the start with a series of marauding runs down the left wing and some excellent crosses.

In the fourth minute James Dabbs played the ball out to Baptiste, and continued his run to get on the end of the return cross, but headed over the bar.

Nine minutes later, another surging run from Baptiste set up Adrian Colorado to hit a rasping shot from distance which looked destined for the top corner until visiting keeper Erbil Bozkurt tipped it over the bar.

Levy’s enterprising play deserved a goal, and it duly arrived on 38 minutes.

Adiel Mannion laid the ball back to Dizon, and he calmly took his time and slotted home from the edge of the box.

The lead was almost doubled on the stroke of half time as a cross from Dizon found Mannion, who lobbed Bozkurt – but a defender got back in time to hook the ball off the line.

Haringey began to work their way back into the game as the second half progressed, and Coulton saved well at the feet of Dewayne Clarke on 69 minutes, before Clarke chipped in a cross which saw Coulton keep out Dean Fenton’s header.

Coulton was called into action twice more as the game headed towards its conclusion, while Mannion and Dizon were both denied by Bozkurt at the other end.

The game was still in the balance as the clock ticked past the 90 minute mark, but Levy were not to be denied the three points and held on for the win.
