Tring Athletic continued their excellent run of form by coming from behind to win 2-1 at Hillingdon Borough in Tuesday night’s SSML Premier Division fixture.

Athletic had two chances within the first four minutes, both saved by home keeper Connor Spaans, but the visitors began to find it difficult to maintain possession as Borough were quick to shut them down.

Neither side were dominating, and play swung from end to end without many chances being created.

Borough eventually opened the scoring three minutes before half-time when striker Danilson Vicente found himself free in the area before volleying home.

Athletic came out for the second half with more determination and started to dominate the game.

They created a number of chances, with keeper Connor Spaans pulling off a string of good saves.

Borough were relying on quick breaks, but finally Athletic’s persistence finally paid off when substitute Ryan McMahon found Taylor Collins who fired the ball across goal to Chris Vardy who drilled home the equaliser in the 73rd minute.

Athletic kept the pressure on and should have had a penalty a few minutes later when Stewart King was tripped from behind, but neither the referee nor his assistant were interested in the appeals.

With time running out, Athletic produced a good move down the left, with full-back Kevin McManus collecting the ball and then firing low into the area. Stewart King met the ball at the near post to bag what proved to be the winning goal in the third minute of stoppage time.

It was an excellent win for Tring against a difficult side to break down.
